What is a good conversion rate for a local business?

As rough orientation: 2 to 5% of website visitors should enquire, 20 to 40% of leads should become booked jobs, and 30 to 50% of quotes should close. These vary a lot by trade and ticket size, but knowing roughly where you sit tells you which part of the funnel is actually costing you money.

Use them as a diagnostic, not a target

The value of benchmarks is locating the weak link. A business with plenty of traffic and no enquiries has a website or offer problem. One with plenty of leads and few bookings has a follow-up problem. One that quotes constantly and rarely wins has a pricing, positioning, or qualification problem. Same symptom — "marketing isn't working" — three different fixes.

Why chasing the average is a trap

A 60% lead-to-booking rate sounds excellent until you learn the business only gets six leads a month from referrals. A 15% rate on high volume can produce far more revenue. Rates matter in the context of volume and job value, never on their own.

None of this is measurable while leads live in four inboxes, which is the real starting point for most businesses — one pipeline, every lead tracked to an outcome.
