How fast should you follow up with a lead?

Book a Free Strategy Call 15 minutes. Honest feedback on your market.

Inside five minutes at the absolute latest, and under one minute if you can manage it. Response time is the single highest-leverage variable in local lead conversion, because a prospect who filled in your form is almost certainly filling in two or three others, and the business that responds first is usually the business that gets to set the terms of the conversation.

Why the first minute matters so much

It is not that people are impatient. It is that intent decays and competition does not sleep. Somebody who requests a quote is in an active buying moment, and that moment closes fast — they get back to work, the kids need collecting, or a competitor calls them first and starts building the relationship.

By the next morning you are no longer responding to a hot lead. You are cold-calling somebody who has already had a conversation with somebody else.

What "fast" means in practice

Nobody can do this by hand

This is the honest catch. If you run the business and do the work, you cannot answer inside a minute at 8pm on a Thursday, and pretending otherwise is how the leak persists. That is exactly why this gets automated: the first response fires immediately whether or not you are available, and hands you a warm conversation instead of a cold callback.

If you only fix one thing about your marketing this quarter, fix this before you spend another dollar on ads. Buying more leads while losing half of them is the most expensive mistake in local marketing.
