How do I stop losing leads?
Leads leak in four specific places, and almost every local business is leaking in at least three. Enquiries arrive somewhere nobody is watching. The first reply takes hours. Follow-up stops after one attempt. And anybody who says 'not right now' is never contacted again. Fix them in that order, because each one is cheaper than buying replacement leads.
Leak 1: nobody sees the enquiry
Facebook lead forms sitting unread in a notification nobody checks. Website forms going to an email address you stopped monitoring. Missed calls with no voicemail. Google Business Profile messages nobody knew existed. Get every channel landing in one place, then check what has been sitting there — most owners find something uncomfortable.
Leak 2: the first response is too slow
A lead answered in under a minute is a different prospect from the same lead answered tomorrow, because they contacted three companies and the first responder sets the terms. You cannot do this by hand while working, which is precisely why the first response gets automated.
Leak 3: follow-up stops at one attempt
Most owners call once, get voicemail, and mentally file the lead as dead. The job goes to whoever called a third and fourth time. Nobody has the hours for that manually, and it is one of the easiest things to systematize.
Leak 4: "not now" is treated as "no"
Roughly seven in ten enquiries are not ready to buy today. If your process only serves the three who are, you are discarding the majority of what you paid to generate. Long-term nurture is the cheapest revenue in the business because these people already raised their hand once.
Do this before you spend more on advertising. Increasing lead volume through a leaking funnel raises your costs and your frustration at the same time. Plugging the leaks makes every future dollar of ad spend worth more.
