How do I get more calls from Google Maps?

Four things move the needle, in this order: complete your Google Business Profile properly including a written description for every individual service, make your name and phone number consistent across every major directory, build reviews steadily rather than in bursts, and publish pages that answer the questions your customers actually search. Most businesses have done none of the four.

1. Fill in the fields almost everyone skips

Open your profile and go into the services section. Each service can be clicked into and given its own written description, and Google reads all of it. Most owners leave these on the auto-generated defaults. Doing this properly is the single most skipped high-leverage task in local search.

Then check your primary category, which is one of the strongest ranking factors there is and is very often set to something almost-but-not-quite right. Add secondary categories to widen what you can appear for.

2. Make your listings agree with each other

If you appear as "Smith Plumbing" in one directory, "Smith Plumbing LLC" in another, and with two different phone numbers, Google cannot confidently tell which version of you is real, and uncertainty suppresses you. Pick one exact format and make every listing match it character for character.

3. Build reviews on a system, not on memory

Volume matters, recency matters more than people expect, and replying to them matters too. The only reliable way to get them is to automate the request so it goes out after every completed job, timed for the moment the customer is happiest.

4. Publish real answers to real questions

Find the questions people genuinely type about your trade in your area, and write one page per question with an actual answer. Not blog filler. This is what pulls a local business into the map pack, and increasingly it is what gets you quoted by AI assistants when somebody asks them for a recommendation.

One thing not to do: keyword-stuffing your business name. Renaming yourself "Lehighton Best Cheap Emergency Plumber" works briefly, then gets your listing suspended and costs you far more than it gained.
